Urinary incontinence

TOT or TVT surgery for a stress urinary incontinence

Stress urinary incontinence sometimes can be treated with a surgery, if the traditional management with pelvic floor muscle therapy and other treatments do not help. In this surgery the external genitalia is numbed with a cream and injection. A special tape is introduced with the TOT-method under the urethra. Surgery takes about 15-30 minutes, after which the patient is observed for 2 to 4 hours. Success rate to this method is approximately 90 %, and the complications are very rare.

Laser treatment of stress urinary incontinence

If a person does not want or fit in TOT or TVT sling operations, new smooth laser treatments may be considered. Usually three treatments, one month between each, are performed. The treatment is painless ‘lunch time’ procedure. 80-90 % of the treated get rid of the problem or symptoms are relieved. The effect of the procedure lasts 1-2 years, and then it can be repeated.
